Self-promotional candy boxes for a local print shop inspired by magazine ads from the 1950s
Leatherback Candy Boxes
With summertime approaching, Leatherback Printing wanted to create a self-promotional piece advertising the purchase of a new printing press and the recent expansion of their production capabilities. Having a sweet tooth of their own, the owners liked the idea of sending out nostalgic candy in small gift boxes—Pixy Stix, Pop Rocks, Dots, Sweet Tarts, Sugar Babies, Nik-L-Nips, and many more. On a slow Tuesday afternoon, who doesn’t like a small treat to help get them through the day? Print advertisements sourced from 1940s and 50s magazines such as Life, Vogue, and Time served as inspiration for these fun, retro-looking designs. Collages and image overlays are combined resulting a layering effect that mimics the look of a make-ready press sheet.
